Tripping Round Hong Kong

Thursday, December 16, 2010
Have been immensely enjoying swanning around Hong Kong and getting to know the city. It is so diverse, busy and fine grained. Its so incredibly dense and just about every main street is busy like Oxford Circus on a Thursday evening. Had a bit of an island escape last weekend on a friend's boat - HK has beautiful islands like Thailand no more than half an hour away, who knew? I also love the Chinese attitude and the people that I've met, who are generally 4 parts old school respect and conscientiousness to 6 parts totally can-do and entrepreneurial. If you were going to start a business and make it work anywhere, Hong Kong would be the place. Here's a few pics. Hope they don't bore you to tears.

DIY Maxi Fringe Skirt

How cool is a long fringed skirt like this layered over pants or opaque tights? You can make your own by buying leather twine and cutting heaps of meter long lengths, and using hot glue to attach to another piece of leather twine to go around the waist. Very very time consuming but would look very cool. This method is a great way to make any type of length of leather fringing.

DIY Embellished Knickers

I'm sure you've seen these type of embellished knickers before, but this picture has particularly inspired me to make some of my own - I am thinking maybe for swimwear. Buy some high waisted knickers or bikini bottoms, attach some half moon shaped fabric at the hips like below, embellishing with different coloured sequins, studs, buttons or even fringing. For the half moon shapes use leather or another stiff fabric to get the required amount of definition at the hips.
