DIY In Colour

Tuesday, August 2, 2011
This is such an amazing shoot by the gorgeous Zanita and friends. Every single picture has me drooling, and the mix of grey and pops of colour is perfection. What especially caught my eye was the gorgeous perspex and rope jewellery and belts. So. Cool. The jewellery is by Alexandra Blak - I have to thank Zanita for introducing me to this amazing designer! You know what I love most about this post? The eye for DIY detail is impressive - often stylists make the best DIYers!

Loving this top made out of two pieces of fabric.
Amazing neon chain (spray paint your own) and a DIY one shoulder top from made out of jersey fabric.
Knotted rope necklace. Amazing!
Neon tipped sunglasses - pick up a similar style from ebay and add your own neon tips using paint.
Neon rope + carabiner = coolest belt ever!

Can you count the number of times I used the word 'amazing' in this post? Clearly need to find a few more descriptive words....

DIY Gold Ankle Cuffs

Wednesday, July 20, 2011
These ankle cuffs are so incredibly cool - I'm on a mission to make a pair of my own. I would make sure they were detachable from the shoe so that I could wear them with all different heels. I'm sure there would be something in my local plumbing store that would work... Stay tuned!

DIY Stacked Arms - worthy of tommy ton

Friday, June 17, 2011
You may have seen my recent How To Guide on how to stack your wrists 'arm party' styles. But maybe you're not content with just stacking and want to take your arm adornments to a fashion week worthy level? Well read on for a few extra rules for the stackage - that should have you snapped outside Somerset House and spirited away onto Style.com before you can say peony lim!

Colours - Choose a base tone of gold or silver for your stack based on your watch or your taste - add bracelets, spikes and chains in this tone.
Go for Texture - In addition to the hardware, add a few friendship bands, bits of rope, string or fabric and leather bands in a complementary palette (neons yes please) for texture.
Distribution - Mix em up! Distribute the different elements discussed in my previous post randomly across your wrist - you want it to feel carefree and nonchalant.
Focal Point - aka the USP (unique snapping point). This item attached to chain or string, be it a charm, button, globe, tassel or whathaveyou, should focus and surprise an onlooker. It hopefully gets their trigger finger a-twitchin.
More is more - unless of course, if more is actually less. Once you've wristed your stack - take a long hard look. Does it feel fun and festival-ly or somehow overthought? Remove items if it looks like you spent too much time thinking about it.
Keep those hands busy - Heaven forbid your wrists should just be dangling there or swinging when you're walking. Carrying items helps promote a sense of 'too busy to care about stacking' attitude - which is good if your wrists look like a Christmas tree. What should you carry? Invitations to top tier runway shows score points, as do busy looking blackberries and 'it'-bucket-bags. For me, the more random the item the better - the person who manages to lug a watermelon down to the Tulleries along with fully stacked arms gets my vote and hopefully some space on Mr Ton's memory card!

Here's an example of a fun (and maybe even snap worthy?) armload.
How cute are the tiny geisha key charms? String them on some twine and away you go!

Need more arm party inspiration? Leandra of the Man Repeller posted here with a whole heap of instagram pics of her wristwear, Honestly Wtf is the place to go for DIY bracelet tutorials (I still have dreams about the hex nut bracelet) and Blair over at Atlantic Pacific always has prefectly stacked wrists. Happy stacking!

DIY Stacked Arms - A How To Guide

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Lets just say that at the moment, more is definitely more when it comes to wrists. But would you believe there's a science to the art of a perfectly stacked arm? I am constantly drooling over Leandra of the Man Repeller's wrists as she seems to nail it every time. She's inspired me to put together these easy steps so you too can rock an 'arm party'. The best part? Most of the things you see above can be found in thrift or craft stores - so it's a cheap and easy wardrobe updater.  Enjoy the inspiration pics below from the master wrist voyeur - Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil, and get stacking!

DIY Bolt Rings

Inspired by the gorgeous Ivania of Love Aesthetics, I recently made these bolt rings. I threaded some thin black elastic through the bolts and then sewed the elastic shut to create rings. Very comfy to wear actually!

My gorgeous friend Natalie of Canned Fashion hinted to me recently that she had done a fabulous DIY - and I stumbled upon its gloriousness on Grazia.it in these amazing pics taken by the ever-talented Vanessa Jackman. How rad is this neon pink pom pom necklace? Hoping to get the 411 on the tutorial from Natalie herself sometime soon.

Blogger DIYs

Tuesday, April 5, 2011
So I've been so busy making dresses and earrings and working on a few other little projects that I haven't had the time to post some of my favourite DIYs from other creative bloggers. Shame on me! I'm drawn to DIYs like a moth to a flame, so here are some of my favourites.

DIYs jewellery using fluro/nautical rope are very popular at the moment - with good reason! This one by Andy of Style Scrapbook is amazing. Being a rock climbing enthusiast it the clasp particularly appeals to me. Check it out here.
Another perfectly executed DIY by A Matter of Style - why buy (from Zara) when you can DIY should be my new motto.
Another great DIY clutch from the adorable MJ of Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres - made using a thrifted leather skirt. Perfect!
How amazing is this beaded collar from the lovely Alexandra of She is Red?
