DIY Zip Off Coat

Thursday, October 14, 2010
This is the coolest coat ever! Able to be a long winter coat or zipped off to create a boxy blazer. I saw one exactly like this in Cos yesterday and it was love at first sight (which quickly turned to hate when I saw the price tag). I have seen mountains of gorgeous coats in Charity Shops recently, never for more than a tenner. To DIY this, buy a thrifted coat in a nice wool, decide where you want to be able to zip the coat in half (thinking about the appropriate length for the little half coat), cut off, and a attach zip by sewing both long raw edges to the edge of a heavy duty zip. Voila!

Addicted to Two Tone

Have been dreaming about two tone over the last couple of days. I went and bought some good fabric glue yesterday (essential for DIYing on the go). I'm going to do a little bit of DIY two tone like this with some fabric, a thrifted trench and the fabric glue.

DIY Autumn Trench

Wednesday, September 8, 2010
Thrifted trench coats present a huge range of options when it comes to DIY. I absolutely love the colour and textures of this jacket. To DIY this, you could wear a creme knitted jumper underneath a creme trench with the sleeves removed. If you're particularly nifty, you could attach the sleeves from a creme cardigan to a DIY trench vest.

DIY Cut Off Trench

Friday, August 20, 2010
The cut off trench coat is perfect for for the whole awkward summer/autumn which jacket to wear thing. I particularly love the really really short bolero style cut off. You can easily make one of your own by cutting off a thrifted trench coat and hemming.

DIY Acne Leather Panel Trench Coat

Tuesday, August 10, 2010
Take some brown leather (bought from a craft shop or cut out of a thrifted mens leather jacket) and a thrifted trench coat. Cut the leather into shape by tracing the outline of the back weather panel of the tench coat. Glue the top edges of the leather to the trench coat as seen below,  so that you leave the bottom of the panel hanging. Glue the same leather to one side of the trench coat's belt.

DIY - Cape (and you thought it was summer!)

Thursday, July 15, 2010
Why am I thinking about capes ALREADY? The weather has turned chilly again in London, ahem, so I am thinking about capes. Perhaps keep this lightly simmering until winter if you are in a place that is warmer. The following images show that it would be easy to deconstruct a jacket to make a fitted cape. You could either simply cut holes in the underneath of the sleeves and put yours arms through, like the image of Hannelli below. Or to make a jacket like the second and third images, you could take an oversized coat that is too big in the shoulders, cut off the arms at the shoulders and sew the arm holes shut (aiming to create a rounded shoulder). Finally, make cuts in the front of the jacket to create the cape arm holes.

DIY - Cut off trench coat

Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Love the length of this trench coat - and a very easy DIY! Buy an old trench coat from a thrift store (where else?) and cut off. Sew the bottom hem line just below the waist - or leave it unhemmed for a more rough look.
